Rishi Sunak reveals Love of Jilly Cooper’s Erotic Novels

Rishi Sunak has revealed that he turns to Jilly Cooper’s erotic novels as a form of “escapism”.

Earlier in May 2023, it was reported that the Prime Minister enjoys the racy novels.

He confirmed the news during an appearance on ITV’s This Morning.

When asked by presenter Alison Hammond if the rumours were true, Mr Sunak laughed and said:

“Yes that’s true. It’s unclear how that has emerged.”

Mr Sunak then revealed that Jilly Cooper’s Riders, Rivals, Polo, The Man Who Made Husbands Jealous and Appassionata, saying:

“Those are my (favourites).

“She’s done lots of different books, that’s the set of books that I like, those ones.”

The books are part of Cooper’s Rutshire Chronicles, set in the elite world of showjumping and polo and featuring the lothario Rupert Campbell-Black.

When asked about his biggest regret, Mr Sunak joked that it was having to discuss his passion for Jilly Cooper’s books but continued:

“They are good. You need to have escapism in your life, and that’s a good thing.

“So whether it’s whatever TV you watch, whatever you’re reading, it’s good to be able to get away from your day-to-day, right?

“And just go into a totally different place.”

Known for her erotic novels, Jilly Cooper was very popular in the 1980s and 1990s.

Her 1988 novel Rivals is being adapted into a television series for Disney+.

It will star David Tennant, Danny Dyer, Emily Atack, and Aidan Turner.

Rishi Sunak, who recently celebrated his 43rd birthday, received a carrot cake from his team.

It is also believed that he is a fan of the popular Netflix show Emily in Paris, which stars Lily Collins.

According to the PM, he is teased by his fellow colleagues because of his taste in music due to him being a fan of Michael Bublé.

Mr Sunak has said he has a hip-hop playlist to help him get get psyched up before speeches, while he has also admitted to listening to the Global station Heart 00s on the way to work.

In summer 2022, Rishi Sunak appeared on This Morning and said he enjoyed McDonald’s breakfast wraps – an item that had disappeared from the chain’s menu almost two and a half years before.

A source from Sunak’s campaign said he had eaten the wraps with his children when they were on the menu:

“I think given he’s barely seen his kids in the last two and a half years, it’s likely he hasn’t been to McDonald’s in that time.”
