Will there be season 2 of The Old Man?

Well, the good news for the fans is that FX has already renewed The Old Man. FX renewed the show on June 27, before episode four of the seven-episode first season. The premiere of The Old Man was the most-watched cable series premiere since January 2021, as per Deadline.

“The stellar cast led by Jeff Bridges, John Lithgow, Amy Brennenman and Alia Shawkat is really connecting with audiences and we are excited to get to work on season 2 with our colleagues at 20th Television and this fantastic team,” said Eric Schrier, FX Entertainment president.

When will The Old Man Season 2 be released?

The big question is when are we getting The Old Man season 2? Well, there is no information yet. There are only a few series that have two seasons in a year and The Old Man isn’t looking like one. So, I don’t think we are getting the next season this year.

However, based on the release of the first season, we can assume that the second season could start airing in summer 2023. We will update you when we have an idea of when The Old Man season 2 will release.

The Old Man Season 1 Recap

Spoilers Alert

The spy thriller introduced Jeff Bridges in the role of the former CIA member Dan Chase. Chase is seen living in upstate New York for thirty years quite in peace unless something contrasting happens in his life.

The former CIA member had killed an intruder who broke into his home. Post which Chase has been living off-the-grid. He rents a room from Zoe McDonald, with whom he is forced to partner while on the run.

FBI Assistant Director for Counterintelligence Harold Harper is tasked to bring in Chase, because of their complicated past during the Soviet–Afghan War. Harper has his team that included his protege, trusted protege Angela Adams (Alia Shawkat), and young CIA agent Raymond Waters (EJ Bonilla). His team also has Julian Carson, an assassin (Gbenga Akinnagbe), recommended to Harper by the shadowy power player Morgan Bote (Joel Grey).

Who will star in The Old Man Season 2?

Though we haven’t got any official announcement about the cast for the second season of The Old Man, we can make an educated guess based on who survived the first season. So, the following members are surely coming back for the second season:

  • Jeff Bridges as Dan Chase
  • John Lithgow as Harold Harper
  • Alia Shawkat as Angela Adams
  • Navid Negahban as Faraz Hamzad
  • Gbenga Akinnagbe as Julian Carson
  • Joel Grey as Morgan Bote
  • Amy Brenneman as Zoe McDonald

It is still unknown if Bill Heck, Leem Lubany, Pej Vahdat and Christopher Redman — who played the younger versions of Chase, Abbey Chase, Hamzad, and Harper — are going to be back. The show may bring back these characters through flashbacks.

The Old Man Season 2 Plot

The first season of The Old Man was just the beginning of the story for all the potential characters, especially Chase and Hamzad. Meanwhile, Harper is the key character in the series too. However, the second season will move in the direction to let the viewers know how Harper will deal with Chase.

One of the cliffhangers left in season 1 was certainly Hamzad meeting his long-lost daughter Emily. Thus, it would be interesting to see how they reconcile with each other and if any other twist awaits in the second season or not.

Is there any trailer for The Old Man season 2?

With no release date finalized for The Old Man season 2, we can’t expect to have a trailer anytime soon. Though certainly a few months before the release of the second season of the spy thriller we are likely to get the trailer.

Is The Old Man series closely following The Old Man novel by Thomas Perry?

The Old Man series has taken its basic story from the novel of the same name by Thomas Perry. However, one who has gone through the novel and the first season of FX’s series can easily spot the difference between the duo’s storylines.

Not only some characters’ names but even the plot and connection behind them have been changed in the series. Be it Emily who is working with Harper and is the daughter of Hamzad. In the novel, she has no connection with Hamzad (Called Hamzah in the novel).

Similarly, the reason for Hamzad running behind Chase in the series is different. As in the novel, Chase took $20 million from Hamzah and that made the latter run after him. The story between them in the series though is different as there Chase ran away from Hamzad during the Soviet-Afghan war. Thus one cannot bet on whether the series will follow the novel closely, especially towards the end of it.
