Fans have been eagerly waiting for the OTT release of  The Kerala Story. According to several media reports, leading streaming platform Zee5 has bought the digital rights of the Hindi-language blockbuster. Zee5 has announced the digital streaming date of the movie and fans are super excited.

Zee5 acquired the digital streaming rights

According to media reports, the OTT rights for ‘The Kerala Story’ have been acquired by Zee5. However, no official information has been released yet, and the makers of the movie have not provided any details regarding this.

The Kerala Story OTT release date

The Kerala Story will premiere on June 23, 2023, on ZEE5. After a blockbuster success at the box office, the movie is expected to garner huge viewership on OTT.

The Kerala Story Box Office Numbers

As of June 15, 2023, the movie has grossed ₹288.04 crore (US$36 million) in India and ₹15.64 crore (US$2.0 million) overseas for a worldwide gross collection of ₹303.68 crore (US$38 million), becoming the third-highest grossing Hindi movie of 2023.

Produced by Vipul Shah, ‘The Kerala Story’ depicts how women from Kerala were forced to convert and recruited by the terror group Islamic State (IS). The movie portrays how Shalini Unnikrishnan was transformed into Fatima and how she was propagandised through brainwashing into the terrorist organization ISIS.

Marketed as a true story, the film is premised on the Hindutva conspiracy theory of “love jihad”, and falsely claims that thousands of Hindu women from Kerala have been converted to Islam and recruited in ISIS.

Banned in a few states

The Kerala Story sparked numerous political debates and was initially banned by the West Bengal government on May 8 due to concerns over potential tensions among communities. However, on May 18, 2023, the Supreme Court intervened and stayed the ban.
