Scam 2003: The Telgi Story

A new week brings OTT releases and this festive week brings loads of entertainment. The live-action adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece manga premiers on Netflix; Babil Khan, and Juhi Chawla star in a coming-of-age movie titled Friday Night Plan; Mohit Raina-led espionage thriller The Freelancer makes its way on Disney+ Hotstar; and fantasy series, The Wheel of Time, returns for a second season on Amazon Prime Video. Choose Love

Described as the first-ever interactive romantic comedy, Choose Love is the story of Cami Conway, who is troubled by a sense of incompleteness in her relationship with her boyfriend, Paul. Cami grapples with doubts as their path to marriage unfolds. Amidst these uncertainties, she meets a British rock star, Rex Galier, and her first lover, Jack Menna, comes back into her life. Confronted with countless prospects for her future, Cami finds herself leaning on the audience to make pivotal decisions, steering her towards what could be a blissful ending.

One Piece

The series is a live-action adaptation of the ongoing 1997 Japanese manga series of the same name by Eiichiro Oda. The series follows the adventures of the Straw Hat Pirates, as they explore the dangerous oceans, lands and beyond in search of the “One Piece”, a fabled treasure that will make their captain, Monkey D. Luffy, “King of the Pirates”.

A Day and a Half

Inspired by true events, the story of Netflix’s A Day and a Half will tell the tale of Artan, a man who takes his ex-wife Louise hostage on a perilous road trip through Sweden with the police in tow. Police officer Lukas is also along for the ride. Artan hopes the crazy summer trip will result in him being reunited with his daughter.

Friday Night Plan

Centred around two brothers navigating the journey to adulthood, this comedy-drama focuses on their plan to attend a late-night party during their mother’s business trip. As they encounters with the police and delve into the complexities of their relationship, they strive to return home before their mother’s arrival. Headlining the movie are Babil Khan, Amrith Jayan, and Juhi Chawla.

The Freelancer

Inspired by Shirish Thorat’s 2017 book, A Ticket to Syria, The Freelancer revolves around Avinash Kamath, an ex-cop-turned-mercenary who goes a dangerous rescue mission. He is tasked with infiltrating a war-torn Syria and extracting Aliya, a newly married girl trapped in the country amid rapidly growing ISIS terrorism. The series is created by Neeraj Pandey, who has also helmed other espionage thrillers like Special OPS and Special Ops 1.5: The Himmat Story.

Scam 2003: The Telgi Story

A spiritual sequel series to Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story, the new entry in Hansal Mehta’s Scam franchise focuses on the 2003 stamp paper counterfeiting scandal. The series is adapted from the Hindi book Reporter ki Diary by journalist and news reporter Sanjay Singh, who broke the story of the scam in 2003. The series tells the story of Abdul Karim Telgi, a counterfeiter who printed fake stamp paper.

Telgi, the mastermind behind one of India’s most ingenious scams spread across multiple states which shook the entire country. It is estimated that the scam value was allegedly around ₹20,000 crores.

The Wheel of Time Season 2

Based on the novel series of the same name by Robert Jordan, The Wheel of Time follows Moiraine, a member of the Aes Sedai, a powerful organization of women who can channel the One Power.
