My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3: The third instalment in the My Big Fat Greek Wedding franchise in My Big Fat Greek Wedding is coming this month.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 is an American romantic comedy film written and directed by Nia Vardalos. The first part debuted on August 2, 2002. It’s been 21 years since Nia Vardalos and the ensemble of My Big Fat Greek Wedding delivered the world one of the best romantic comedies of all time, one that defied expectations and became a major success.

The iconic rom-com, which follows 30-year-old Greek-American Toula Portokalos as she struggles to convince her family to accept her non-Greek love interest, has become a beloved classic over the years and is now coming back.

However, a lot has changed since the original movie as My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 prepares to open this month. But first, when will it make its debut? Who is in the cast? Here’s everything you need to know.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 Release Date and Platform

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 releases in theatres on September 8, 2023, which is truly coming sooner than you think. At the box office, it is going to clash with The Nun 2 which is also opening in theatres on the same day.

Currently, there is no information on when My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 will be available for streaming, although it will likely be released in November or December 2023.

It is most likely to make its digital premiere on Peacock Premium and HBO as it is produced by HBO Films and Focus Features.

What will be the plot of My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3?

Nothing much is known about the plot of this one. The movie will follow the Portokalos family on a trip to Greece for a family reunion after the death of Gus.

The third film’s premise is as follows:

“The Portokalos family as they venture to Greece for a family reunion after Toula’s father Gus dies. The movie mirrors real life, as Michael died in 2021 at the age of 94 from natural causes.”

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 Box Office

The first instalment, My Big Fat Greek Wedding released on April 19, 2002, is one of the biggest sleeper hits of all time. Made on a budget of just $5 million it earned less than $600,000 on just over 100 screens on its opening weekend. However, with glowing word-of-mouth, it went on to become a huge blockbuster and eventually made an astonishing $368.7 million worldwide, making it one of the ten highest-grossing movies that year, ahead of both of Steven Spielberg’s releases — “Minority Report” and “Catch Me If You Can”.

The second instalment, however, was not as successful as the original. Made on a budget of $18 million, it made only $90 million worldwide.

Now, all eyes are on the third instalment. Box Office Pro predicts it to earn between $8 and $13 million on its opening weekend. That would be quite a bit lower than “My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2” in 2016, which opened to $17.8 million.

Moreover, MBFGW3 has to face stiff competition from a huge chunk of Hollywood movies releasing in September including biggies like Expandables 4.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 will hit the theatres on September 8, 2023.
