On January 12, 2023, Paramount+ announced that “Criminal Minds: Evolution” had been renewed for a second season with production expected to begin later in the year.
As soon as the news broke, Tanya Giles, chief programming officer of Paramount Streaming, immediately had a statement about season 2.
“We’re thrilled to bring even more twisted storylines to our loyal fans of Criminal Minds: Evolution with the order of another season,” she said in a statement, per Deadline. “The series has always been a consistent top performer for Paramount+ and fans have quickly embraced this new season with its more serialized elements. There are still many dark twists and turns yet to come for the BAU this season and we can’t wait for fans to see what’s in store.”
Now, the big question. When will we get to see Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2? We hate to tell the readers that the much-awaited second season won’t be streaming anytime soon.
While a late fall or early winter premiere could have been possible under normal conditions, such is not the case this year. There are no screenplays to film since the writers are on strike. So viewers will have to wait a bit longer to find out when the show will return.
The talks that happened lately between the Writers Guild and the AMPTP didn’t work out, so they couldn’t agree to start talking again. This means that there will definitely be more delays for the upcoming season.
“Winter might be a bit optimistic, since a well-placed source tells [TVLine] that the start of production — originally penciled in for April, and then pushed to June — is now ‘TBD,’ given the [Writer’s Guild of America] strike,” the report reads.
They haven’t written any scripts for the new episodes yet, so they can’t start filming right away when the strike ends. This problem makes the delays even worse.
It’s highly unlikely that we’ll see Season 2 of “Criminal Minds: Evolution” in 2023. It seems increasingly possible that Paramount+ will change its plan, which means the show might come back in 2024, maybe between January and March. This will happen only if the strikes get sorted out in the next few weeks.
