Baylagaam highlights Negative Impact of Social Media

Pakistani drama Baylagaam follows the journey of Ramsha who has a desire to be famous on TikTok.

In her quest for fame, she fails to recognise the dark side of social media and runs away from home so that her influencer career flourishes.

However, she does not think about the trouble she can land in and soon finds herself in a situation that will tarnish her image even though she is innocent.

The drama has many messages for both parents and children, and the drama has been appreciated for its subtle lessons through its script.

For instance, if your child, especially your daughter, has a talent for something, let her explore it openly in front of you as opposed to going behind her parent’s back.

Baylagaam shows Ramsha making TikTok videos in secrecy because social media is looked down on in her family.

As Ramsha runs away from home, she crosses paths with a sleazy director who asks her to stay at his house for an audition, implying the idea of a casting couch.

A naive Ramsha does not pick up on the red flags and finds herself joining the director at his house.

It is only after his advances that she realises she has made a mistake and flees his home.

As the drama continues, a fearful Ramsha returns home ready to face the consequences of her actions.

But it is refreshing to see that her family take her back and recognise she made a mistake.

In most dramas, a girl is typically shunned by family and friends after running away from home.

Baylagaam has changed the narrative and the script has been appreciated for showing that when a child makes a mistake, they will be supported by their family, but rules will be put into place.

As Ramsha makes a return home, her parents confiscate her phone and realising the impact it has had on her thus far, Ramsha does not complain about the development.

However, she realises the importance of her education and pleads with her parents to allow her to complete her studies so that she can better herself.

Baylagaam boasts a stellar cast of Laiba Khan, Ali Abbas, Haroon Shahid, Shabbir Jan, Tuba Anwar, Shaheen Khan and Kashif Mehmood.

It has been written by Huma Hina Nafees and directed by Zahid Mehmood.
