RRR ranks 9th in Global list of Top 50 Films of 2022
RRR, director SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus, is continuing its winning spree.
The film has now secured a place in a global list of the top 50 films of 2022.
It was placed in the 9th spot.
The magnum opus follows a pre-Independence fictional story set in the 1920s that revolves around two real-life Indian revolutionaries – Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem.
The film also stars Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn in lead roles.
Sight and Sound Magazine cited: “As with Rajamouli’s two-film ancient-India saga Bahubali (2015/2017), RRR – ‘Rise! Roar! Revolt!’ – is a spectacle aimed at big rooms, a money-on-the-screen CGI-enabled action fantasy whose hyperreal violence is reminiscent of role-playing video games…”
The magazine added: “In place of the grinding self-seriousness of the western superhero picture, RRR boasts a kind of Olympian exuberance running through both its action and its musical sequence.”
RRR has also won three awards at the Philadelphia Film Critics Circle Annual Awards.
These include Best Foreign Language Film, Best Cinematography, and Best Score/Soundtrack.
The official Twitter handle of RRR shared a tweet and wrote: “Thank you @PhilaFCC for awarding us with 3 Trophies #RRRForOscars #RRRMovie.”
Following the announcement, several fans congratulated the RRR team.

A user tweeted: “Congratulations?? It’s a movie I love the more I see it.

The film was released worldwide in March 2022 in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi.
RRR emerged as a massive box office success even overseas with reported earnings of Rs. 1.2 crore.
Another Indian film that made it to the same list was Shaunak Sen’s documentary All that Breathes.
Recently, the film also secured five awards at the 28th annual Critics Choice Awards.
The categories included Best Picture, Best Director, Best Foreign Language Film, Best Song, and Best Visual Effects.
RRR has also bagged two Golden Globe nominations including Best Picture – Non-English and Best Song for ‘Naatu Naatu’.
The film has been applauded internationally and has won awards at the Sundance Film Festival and Cannes Film Festival, among others.
Meanwhile, All That Breathes is the second Indian film that secured the 32nd spot in the global list.
Further, Charlotte Well’s debut feature Aftersun was ranked first in the list.
Aftersun is the story of a young father-daughter duo Calum and Sophie who spend a summer at a Turkish resort.
