‘Pathaan’ surpasses Rs 500 Cr Worldwide

Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan has grossed over Rs. 500 Crore (£49 million) worldwide after just five days of its release.

The spy thriller – which also stars Deepika Padukone and John Abraham – became the biggest Bollywood opener ever, grossing Rs. 53 Crore (£5.2 million) on its first day in India.

This surpassed Aamir Khan’s Thugs of Hindostan, which earned Rs. 50 Crore (£5 million) on its first day.

According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, Pathaan has made Rs. 542 Crore (£53 million) worldwide.

This is broken down into Rs. 335 Crore (£33 million) in India and Rs. 207 Crore (£20 million) overseas.

Taran tweeted: “Pathaan crosses Rs. 500 Crore mark: Rs. 542 Crore worldwide gross in 5 days.”

He also described Pathaan‘s box office run as a “tsunami”.

In a separate tweet, Taran wrote: “Pathaan is a box office tsunami. Reboots and revives business of Hindi films.

“Collects unimaginable and unthinkable numbers in its historic 5-day extended weekend. Wed 55 cr, Thu 68 cr, Fri 38 cr, Sat 51.5 cr, Sun 58.5 cr. Total Rs. 271 cr. Hindi, India biz.

Pathaan, Tamil + Telugu: Wed 2 cr, Thu 2.5 cr, Fri 1.25 cr, Sat 1.75 cr, Sun 2.25 cr. Total: Rs. 9.75 cr.”

When it comes to Pathaan‘s international success, it grossed over £7.7 million in North America – primarily in the USA and Canada – in its opening weekend.

It also secured the highest average per screen for the weekend in North America.

Pathaan secured the record for the highest single ticket sales for an Indian film in North America, beating Baahubali 2.

The second-best-performing international region has been the United Arab Emirates and the Middle East. In its first five days, it grossed £6.6 million.

In its first week, Pathaan is set to become the highest-grossing Indian film in the Middle East, beating the likes of Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Sultan.

The third best-performing region is Oceania, surprising many.

It has grossed approximately £3.3 million, with Australia making up almost 50% of the takings.

In Europe, approximately £3 million has been grossed. The United Kingdom has made up 50%. Germany is second and is said to be one of SRK’s strongest international markets.

The likes of the Netherlands, France and other European countries that saw the film release this week have done very well as well, with almost all the countries recording the highest first five-day numbers ever.

Africa and the rest of the world where the film was released, added around £322,000.

Many countries such as Egypt are awaiting the release of Pathaan and it is expected that the film will see a huge turnout, increasing the box office numbers even further.

Pathaan is currently the 15th highest-grossing Indian film ever and the attention now turns to whether the film can reach Rs. 1,000 Crore (£98 million).

Only Dangal, Baahubali 2, RRR and KGF: Chapter 2 have surpassed this mark.
