In the final episodes of the second season, we came to know a rat can survive the sunlight. Horst and Laura have been releasing the rats since the first season to see if they could survive the sun. The rat that survived was covered with a frozen tin vessel. Hence, they came to the conclusion that like water, ice can protect against the deadly rays of the sun. The quest for survival will continue in the third season as the survivors continue to face new challenges.
