I’m a Punjabi Man and Want to Become a Pornstar

There are many individuals who want to enter the sex industry and become a pornstar. But, very few come from a British Asian background.

The adult film industry is a controversial topic that can spark a wide range of opinions and emotions.

While some people view it as a form of exploitation and degradation, others see it as a legitimate form of artistic expression and sexual exploration.

For many people, the decision to enter the porn industry is a complex and deeply personal one, shaped by a variety of experiences, beliefs, and desires.

We spoke to 24-year-old British Asian, Rohail Singh*, who wants to enter the porn industry.

He shares his thoughts on growing up surrounded by sex and attraction toward porn at an early age.

He also talks about the conflicts between his Indian culture and porn itself and the stigma towards it.

Young and Impressionable

Rohail shares some of his early experiences with porn and highlights how prevalent affection and sexual contact can be among younger generations:

“Growing up in a traditional Indian family in Britain, sex was a taboo topic at home.

“It was not something we talked about, and there was always a sense of shame and embarrassment around the subject.

“But as a young boy, I was naturally curious about sex and sexuality, and I found myself drawn to sex.

“Obviously, as a child, you find kissing or affectionate funny but I feel like I understood the intimacy of it all very quickly – quicker than most kids.

“At school, me and my friends would search for porn jokingly and laugh at all the naked boobs and vaginas.

“But as I grew older, I began to explore porn online, and I was immediately drawn to the variety and intensity of the experiences on offer.

“Unlike real life,  porn offered me an outlet to explore my deepest desires without any restrictions.

“It was a place where I could experiment with my sexuality and explore my own desires without any judgment.

“I started secondary school without ever having a kiss and people there were already chatting about their first kisses or dry humping.

“My own sexual encounters were limited and unsatisfying, but my curiosity about sex only grew stronger.

“I then basically found myself looking at porn that I wanted to feel in my own life.”

“For example, I remember being 12 or 13 and searching for ‘first kiss leads to sex’, or something like that, and would watch it and get hard.

“People may find that weird, but trust me, a lot of people do it and it’s how porn becomes an addiction.

“Whereas, I looked at it as a way to mature sexually and basically know what I’m doing when the time comes.

“You know Indian parents aren’t going to talk to their children about sex or help them with it, so I had to find my own solution to that.”

It’s interesting to see how Rohail saw porn as a way of learning about the desires he wanted to experience in real life.

Normally, porn is used as a sexual release, but it seems to have guided Rohail’s knowledge of sex.

The Magic of Pornstars

Of course, wanting to become a pornstar is heavily motivated by the content you watch.

Therefore, Rohail explains some of the talents which have increased his interest in becoming an adult entertainer:

“Slowly, I became fascinated with the way performers were able to explore their sexuality.

“It was not long before I began to follow some of the biggest names in the industry, and I was inspired by their courage and professionalism.

“One of my favorite Indian pornstars is Priya Rai. She’s a legendary performer who has been in the industry for years, and she’s known for her stunning looks and incredible talent.

“Her performances are always full of energy and passion, and she’s able to connect with her audience in a way that few performers can.

“She’s also been an incredible ambassador for the Indian community, and I admire her for the way that she’s broken down barriers and challenged stereotypes.

“Another performer who has captured my attention is Sunny Leone.

“She’s been in the industry for several years, and she’s become a household name in India due to her mainstream appearances in films and on television.

“Her performances convey a sense of confidence and empowerment that is truly inspiring.”

“She’s also been a strong advocate for the rights of performers, and I believe that she’s made an important contribution to the industry as a whole.

“A newer performer who has caught my eye is Maya Bijou.

“While she’s not completely Indian, she has Indian heritage, and she’s quickly becoming one of the most sought-after performers in the industry.

“She has this emotional intensity that is incredible to watch.”

“I guess what I’m trying to say is that yes porn is there to make you feel good sexually.

“But, the way I look at it is completely different and it’s how you interpret this art form. And yes, it is art, and that’s why I feel I want to become a pornstar.

“Despite my interest in the industry, I was aware of the negative aspects of porn, such as the objectification and exploitation of performers.

“I was also concerned about the societal stigma attached to the industry, and the ways in which my own community would view my choice to enter it.”

It’s clear that Rohail is heavily invested in porn and focuses more on the creativity behind each scene and how it can be a method of expression.

Weary & Dedicated

Whilst he maintains his vision to become a pornstar, Rohail still realises it’s a massive undertaking following this career as a British Asian.

He details his fear of his family finding out where his true passion lies and also emphasises the importance of representation:

“As an Asian man, I was aware of the cultural baggage that came with the decision to enter the porn industry.

“In our culture, sex is meant to be kept private, and the idea of me being a porn star would be a disgrace to my family.

“I come from a traditional Indian family, and we’ve always been taught to uphold certain values and beliefs.

“In our culture, sex is something that is not discussed openly, and certainly not something that is seen as a legitimate career choice.

“The idea of me being a pornstar would shock my parents, and I fear that they would be disappointed and ashamed of me.

“I’ve tried to talk myself out of it, telling myself that I could find another career path that would be more acceptable to my family.

“But the truth is, I can’t shake the desire to be in porn. I’ve always been fascinated by sex, and I think that I have the looks and the talent to make it as a performer.

“I’ve been watching more and more porn lately, trying to see if I could find a way to express my desires without actually becoming a performer.

“But the more I watch, the more I realise that I want to be a part of it. I want to be in front of the camera, exploring my sexuality and sharing it with others.

“I know that I will face judgment and stigma from many different quarters, including my own family and community.

“But I believe that it’s important to break down these barriers and challenge the stereotypes that exist.

“Apart from South Asia, where you kind of have no choice, there aren’t any big Desi male pornstars. But why?

“We need just as much representation as Asian women do. And I hope that my path leads to wider coverage of Asian male stars.

“I have done a few softcore scenes and will hopefully break onto the main stage one day.”

“I feel like I have something unique to offer the industry and I’m willing to share my story to inspire the Asian community to normalise sex work.”

For Rohail, he acknowledges the risks and challenges of the industry, but he’s willing to take those risks and see where this journey takes him.

While the stigma and judgment surrounding the porn industry may never disappear completely in Desi communities, it’s important to recognise the magnitude of this industry.

Likewise, more conversations need to be held within families so people aren’t afraid in exploring their passions.
