Home Economics Season 4: The American sitcom series might be renewed for a fourth season. Here’s everything you need to know!

Home Economics is an American sitcom television series that debuted on ABC on April 7, 2021, as a midseason entry in the 2020–2021 television season. It was produced by Michael Colton and John Aboud.

The series follows three siblings as they try to navigate through adulthood. Home Economics is a family drama meant to entertain viewers and put smiles on their faces.

So far, the series has had three successful seasons, the third of which has recently been wrapped up. Therefore, fans are excited to know whether the series has been renewed for a fourth season or not. This article will walk you through everything you need to know about Home Economics Season 4. Keep reading to learn more.

Will there be Home Economics Season 4?

Home Economics concluded its regrettably condensed 13-episode third season with an earthquake-themed finale on Wednesday, Jan 18, 2023. The episode could easily be a series finale if it had to be, with enough loose ends tied up. At the same time, ABC has not mentioned whether it intends to renew the heinously underrated sitcom for the next season. We will get an update on the fourth season renewal probably in May 2023.

Though the future of Home Economics looks bleak after a squeezed season three,  creators Michael and John have high hopes. “We hope it’s not a season finale,” Michael said. “We’re optimistic. We know the network is very happy with the show. And we have a very devoted fan base. We’re just waiting for the right people to weigh in. It’s a process. But we’re planning to come back. We have a lot more stories to tell. We’re hopeful.”

Home Economics Season 4 Potential Release Date

There isn’t any information to report on a potential fourth season just yet. Nevertheless, a lot of signs point to the show’s revival. If the show gets renewed, the fourth season should premiere in September 2023, based on the premiere dates of the last two seasons.

Why was the third season a shorter one?

Well, the network’s real estate is mostly to blame for that. This season, they only have a limited number of half-hour comedy timeslots, so they had to find some room somewhere. Because ABC fetched Not Dead Yet, starring Gina Rodriguez, they split Home Economics’ time slot with the new series.

Now, it all boils down to ratings for ABC to decide which show to continue and which to drop. Whichever makes more money for ABC will likely continue.

Throughout its third season, Home Economics’ ratings remained consistent, with an average .33 rating among viewers in the 18–49 demographic and 1.92 million viewers. In comparison to other ABC series, it is less than Big Sky which is ABC’s least popular series and The Conners, the most popular one.

Home Economics Season 4 Plot

No plot details have been revealed since it has not been announced whether or not Home Economics will get a fourth season. The subject of Home Economics, on the other hand, spans the lives of three siblings. This family comprises Tom, the eldest, his wife Marina, and their three children. The middle sibling, Sarah, her wife Denise, and their two adopted children live in a cramped apartment on their low earnings. The youngest, Connor, is financially sound but unlucky in love. The series begins with him finalizing a divorce.

In the third season, after a major San Francisco earthquake, Connor decides to run for mayor. This could possibly be one of the plot points for potential Season 4.

“We have some fun ideas on how to play the Mayor thing out if we get a Season 4,” co-showrunner Michael Colton told TVLine. “I think it’s something we can have fun with for a few episodes. It’s inspired by the idea that when people have a certain degree of wealth they think that maybe they should,” co-showrunner John Aboud chimed in, “run everything!”
