Gippy Grewal denied Entry to Pakistan

The Indian immigration authorities reportedly stopped Gippy Grewal from entering Pakistan through the Wagah border on January 28, 2022.

According to sources from the Evacuee Propriety Trust Board (EPTB), arrangements were in place to receive the Punjabi singer at the border as he was scheduled to visit Kartarpur.

An EPTB official said: “He was to move to Kartarpur at 9:30 am and return to Lahore by 3:30 pm.

“Later, Gippy Grewal was scheduled to attend a reception at Governor House.

“On Jan 29, he was to visit Nankana Sahib before his return to India.”

According to the source, Gippy Grewal was to enter Pakistan through the Wagah border on a two-day visit with seven other people but he was stopped at the Atari check post.

The official explained: “He was also to visit Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Lahore and then he had meetings at the Governor House.

“The next day he was supposed to leave for Nankana Sahib to pay respects at the Sikh religious site.”

Sources added that Gippy Grewal had a long schedule of meetings in Pakistan.

The singer and actor was scheduled to have a meeting at the Governor House to discuss joint film ventures between Pakistan and India.

During Gippy Grewal’s earlier visit to Kartarpur, he mingled with his fans and was given ample coverage in the Pakistani media.

Alongside India, Gippy is a popular figure in Pakistan amongst Punjabi film fans.

Gippy Grewal’s films, including Carry on Jatta and Lucky Di Unlucky Story, attracted critical acclaim in the nation.

The film fraternity in Pakistan condemned the Indian authorities for stopping the Punjabi singer.

Comedian Iftikhar Thakur said artists are vital in rebuilding relations between the nations.

He added:

“It is so sad that Grewal was stopped like this from entering Pakistan.”

Meanwhile, the music video for Gippy Grewal’s latest song ‘Darji’ was recently released.

In a post shared with his 4 million Instagram followers, Gippy shared a snippet of the song and music video.

Featuring Punjabi singer Gurlej Akhtar, the lyrics of the song are by Ricky Khan and the music is by Red Room Studio.

Although the entire Limited Edition album is available on audio, Gippy Grewal has been sharing music videos of the songs one at a time.

The music video of ‘Darji’ is directed by Sukh Sanghera and features the model Karnawat.
