Diego Maradona’s stolen watch has been recovered by police in India.

The limited-edition Hublot watch, which beared the legendary Argentine footballer’s initials, was found in the northeastern state of Assam.

A man named Wazid Hussain was arrested at his residence in Sivasagar at 4 am on Saturday, December 11, 2021, following the discovery.

It came after Assam Police were informed by Dubai Police’s Central Agency that he had stolen the expensive watch and fled there with it.

Hussain had been working as a security guard for a company in the UAE which was responsible for storing the late footballer’s belongings.

Only a few days into the job, he had asked his employer for permission to return to India, claiming his father was unwell.

He arrived at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in New Delhi on August 15 2021, seemingly with no intent to return to Dubai.

Now, police officers have also recovered various other items at his address including clothes, shoes, a toy doll, squash rackets and iPads.

It is still to be determined how much of it actually belonged to Maradona.

Director-General of Assam Police, Jyoti Mahanta summarised the story in a series of tweets.

He wrote: “A costly Hublot watch… Maradona… Dubai… Assam Police…

“Look like random words, don’t they?

“But today all these words came together nicely, stating a story of successful international cooperation between Dubai Police and Assam Police.”

The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, has confirmed that authorities will also be taking legal action against Wazid Hussain.

Hublot watches are luxury Swiss timepieces that can cost millions.

Only 250 units of the ‘Hublot Maradona Big Bang Chronograph’ were made and sold out during the FIFA World Cup 2010.

According to watch-id.com, it is 44.5 mm in diameter and composed of black ceramic, which has been micro-blasted for texture.

The dial is composed of Argentine blue and white luminescent numerals with Maradona’s signature also etched in at 6 o’clock.

Meanwhile, his jersey number 10, is inscribed on a sub-dial at the 3 o’clock position in the font Mexcellent.

It also features Hublot’s HUB1146 chronograph movement with 55 jewels and 42 hours of power reserve.

Maradona holds his arms up in victory on the back of the watch which is coupled with an alligator band reinforced with rubber and blue Argentine stitching.

The footballer died of cardiac arrest following a brain operation in 2020, at the age of 60.

Diego Maradona led Argentina to victory in the 1986 World Cup and is considered one of the greatest football players in history.
