Dexter: New Blood is an American crime drama mystery miniseries. Developed for Showtime, it is a follow-up to the series Dexter. The story sees Dexter living under a false name in the sleepy New York town of Iron Lake 10 years after faking his death ten years ago in a hurricane. Dexter may be enjoying his new life, but his “Dark Passenger” is calling after surprising happenings in this tight-knit neighbourhood.
The show premiered on Showtime on November 7, 2021, and fans have been yearning for a second season since the finale. Therefore, we’re all curious to find out whether the show will be renewed or cancelled.

Dexter New Blood Season 2 Release Date
There has yet to be an official announcement on whether Dexter: New Blood will be renewed for a second season. Given that Dexter finally got the conclusion he deserves and is shot to death by his son, Harrison, if you watched the thrilling finish of Dexter: New Blood, you undoubtedly assumed there wouldn’t be a season 2.
Initially, Dexter: New Blood was marketed as a limited series. Therefore, it is unclear whether another season will be ordered now that Dexter is dead, but showrunner Phillips has stated he would jump at the chance to work on another season.
Speaking to TVLine about the possibility of the second season, Showtime Networks president Gary Levine insisted: “It’s too soon to say. We’re still basking in the glow of the limited series, which was everything we hoped for.”
Showrunner Clyde Phillips said: “It’s all in Showtime’s hands. If they were to call me and say, ‘We want to do Harrison. We want you to figure it out.’
“I’m pretty busy, but I would drop everything I’m doing and jump right into it. I would love to do it, but it’s really up to Showtime.”
Dexter New Blood Season 2 Plot
Even if a second season is announced, it is still too soon to predict what will happen, but after Dexter’s passing in the New Blood finale, the centre of the second season would be Harrison, Dexter’s grown son. However, it’s unclear how Harrison’s tale will develop in a second season. It’s likely to continue the tragic events that took place in the first season.
Of course, the next development in the Dexter universe would focus on the serial killer’s son Harrison (played by Jack Alcott), who put an end to the Dexter Morgan era in that unexpected, yet divisive New Blood finale last year.
Paramount Global’s David Nevins looked positive about the franchise’s future. He said: “There are a lot of things that I am working on. I don’t want to mention things until they are ready,” he teased. “There are a lot of things. What is the future [of] the Dexter franchise? I am actively working on that.”
