There is no denying that Bollywood is going through a really bad phase. The post-pandemic releases haven’t lived up to the expectations. As a result, most of the movies released this year so far have tanked at the box office.

We have already entered the seventh month of the year and all we can say is that it has been a disastrous year for Bollywood so far. Out of 40 notable releases, only four have managed to make it big while 36 have tanked at the box office. Here’s a look at the Bollywood box office verdict 2022.

Badhaai Do

The first major Bollywood release of 2022, Badhaai Do, collected Rs 20.62 Crore in India. It was a box office flop.

Gangubai Kathiawadi

Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiawadi received rave reviews and collected Rs 129 Crore in its lifetime. Despite performing well, it’s a box office failure thanks to its massive budget of Rs 180 Crore.

Jhund

Amitabh Bachchan starrer social drama Jhund was received well by critics. However, it failed to make much impact at the box office.

The most unexpected blockbuster of the decade is The Kashmir Files. Vivek Agnihotri’s directional emerged as a revolutionary movie and created a huge impact on society. It became one of the most profitable Bollywood movies of all time in terms of ROI.

Bachchan Pandey

Akshay Kumar’s much-awaited action comedy movie Bachchan Pandey also tanked at the box office. In fact, it failed to cross Rs 50 Crore mark.

Attack

John Abraham, Jacqueline Fernandez, and Rakulpreet Singh starrer sci-fi thriller Attack was also rejected by the audience.

Jersey

Shahid Kapoor tried to repeat the blockbuster success of Kabir Singh with Jersey. However, the movie failed to cross Rs 20 Crore at the Indian box office.

Runway 34

Ajay Devgn, Amitabh Bachchan, and Rakulpreet Singh starrer thriller received rave reviews from fans and critics. However, it failed at the box office probably due to its limited appeal.

Heropanti 2

The expectations were high from Tiger Shroff’s Heropanti 2 as it was a sequel to his hit debut movie Heropanti. Ahmed Khan directional was a total washout at the box office despite being released on Eid weekend.

Jayeshbhai Jordaar

Bhool Bhuliayaa 2

Kartik Aaryan, Tabu, and Kiara Advani starrer Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 received much love from the audience. Released amidst low expectations, the movie emerged as a box office blockbuster. It is still going strong at the box office.

Verdict: Blockbuster

Dhaakad

The biggest disaster of the year and probably one of the biggest of all time is Kangana Ranaut’s action thriller Dhaakad. We don’t have much to say as this movie failed to cross even Rs 5 Crore mark in its lifetime.

Budget: Rs 85 Crore

Anek

Ayushmann Khurana and Anubhav Sinha collaborated again after the success of Article 15. However, this time the duo failed to create any magic at the box office.

Jugjugg Jeeyo

Varun Dhawan, Kiara Advani, Anik Kapoor, and Neetu Kapoor starrer family movie managed to entertain the audiences. However, it still fails to emerge as a clean hit thanks to its big budget.

Rashtra Kawach Om

Aditya Roy Kapur’s action thriller was a washout at the box office. It failed to cross Rs 10 Crore in its lifetime.

Khuda Haafiz: Chapter 2

The sequel to the 2020 action drama movie Khuda Haafiz also failed to attract the audience. Released on July 8, the Vidyut Jammwal starrer is struggling to cross the Rs 10 Crore mark.

Hit: The First Case

A Hindi remake of the hit Telugu movie of the same name starring Rajkummar Rao and Sanya Malhotra also failed to make much impact at the box office.

Shabaash Mithu

Indian legendary cricketer Mithali Raj’s biopic Shabaash Mithu starring Taapse Pannu in a lead role was a total washout at the box office.

Shamshera

Ranbir Kapoor’s comeback movie Shamshera failed to impress the audience and critics. Fifth YRF flop in a row.

Aamir Khan’s most-anticipated ‘Forrest Gump’ remake failed to impress the viewers. Mounted on a budget of Rs 180 Crore, Laal Singh Chaddha has failed to cross the Rs 70 Crore mark in India.

Raksha Bandhan

Clashed with Laal Singh Chaddha at the box office, Raksha Bandhan also tanked at the box office despite being released during the festive season. It is Akshay Kumar’s third consecutive disaster of 2022.

Do Baaraa

Taapsee Pannu’s psychological thriller Do Baaraa was a total washout at the box office. It is Taapsee’s fourth consecutive flop.

Liger

Vijay Devarakonda’s debut Bollywood movie tanked at the box office. It is probably the worst movie of the year.

Brahmastra

Ayan Mukherjee’s fantasy drama ‘Brahmastra’ received a good response at the box office. However, a mammoth budget refrains it from getting a hit status.

Vikram Vedha

Despite being a decent movie, Hrithik and Saif starter Vikram Vedha failed to get going at the box office. The end result is another flop.

Verdict: Flop

Apart from these major movies, low-budget releases like Mere Desh Ki Dharti, Toolsidas Junior, Lucknow Junction, Dehati Dosco, Nikkama, Sherdil – The Pilibhit Saga, and Janhit Mein Jaari, Woh 3 Din, Dhokha, etc were total washouts.

The biggest hits in the Hindi belts are the dubbed Hindi versions of RRR and KGF 2. The Hindi dubbed versions of South Indian movies like Radhe Shyam, Vikram, Valimai, Beast, and Rocketry – The Nambi Effect, and Godfather have also failed at the box office. The Hindi dubbed version of Sita Raman and PSI did well in Hindi bets.
