Blue Period Season 2

Will there be Blue Period Season 2? What’s the current status of the anime adaptation’s second season? Here’s what we know.

  • The first season of Blue Period anime aired on Netflix for international viewers from Oct 9, 2021, to Dec 25, 2021.
  • Blue Period hasn’t been renewed for the second season yet.

Blue Period is a slice-of-life anime based on a manga of the same name written and illustrated by Tsubasa Yamaguchi. It follows Yatora Yaguchi, a perfect high school student, who appears to be active but deep down he feels emptiness. The anime series is about this boy discovering his passion for art and deciding to follow it as his dream. This art anime impressed the anime community and that’s the reason the viewers are waiting for its second season. The first season of Blue Period anime consists of 12 episodes and debuted on Netflix for international viewers on Oct 9, 2021. The first season finale landed on the streaming service on Dec 25, 2021.

Blue Period is a beautiful anime that talks about art being heavily entangled with a person’s emotions. No other anime portrays the struggles of an aspiring artist better than Blue Period. The anime garnered acclaim from audiences and critics for its emotional scenes and brilliant characterization. The first season holds an impressive 7.88/10 score on Myanimelist and a 7.7/10 score on IMDb.

In this article, we will discuss everything about the second season of Blue Period anime.

Has Blue Period been renewed for season 2?

It’s been around a year since the first season concluded airing on Netflix. However, we are yet to get an official confirmation on renewal. As of Dec 10, 2022, the anime hasn’t been officially renewed for the second season by Seven Arcs (a Japanese anime production company). However, fans around the world are optimistic that it will return for its second season.

Though loved by fans internationally, Blue Anime hasn’t received much applause in its origin country Japan. It failed to make it to the Netflix Japan top 10. However, it received sincere results on Myanimelist and IMDb. So, what are the chances of its renewal? Well, it depends on the popularity and the availability of the source material.

As we mentioned above, Blue Period anime is based on a manga of the same name. There are a total of 13 volumes. The latest volume was published on Nov 22, 2022. The first season of the Blue Period anime adapted around six volumes of the manga series. So, currently, there are seven volumes available for adaptation.

The Blue Period manga has reached over 4.5 million copies in circulation. With such huge popularity, there’s a big chance that it might get a second season very soon.

One of the reasons, the studio didn’t announce the second season was the lack of source material. Since the first season used around six volumes, we assume the same amount of source material would be required for another season. Now that seven volumes are available, we are expecting Netflix to renew the series soon.

Blue Period Season 2 Release Date

It’s difficult to predict the release date for the second season as the studio hasn’t announced it yet. Source material should not be an issue as the manga is ongoing

Considering that studio Seven Arcs renews the anime in a month or two, we can expect Blue Period Season 2 to hit Netflix by the end of 2023.

What will be the story of the second season?

If we get the second two, then it’ll cover the First Year University Arc. Assuming it picks up where it left off, the second season will start from Volume 7, Chapter 26 of the manga. Furthermore, if it adapts the same amount of content, i.e. 25 chapters, then the second will reach Saeki’s Drawing Class Mini Arc and the Second Year University Arc.

In the second season, we will see Yaguchi faces new challenges as he successfully gets into the Tokyo University of the Arts. Since he’s in the company of the best art students in Japan, he will have to prove his skills despite his inexperience. Moreover, Yaguchi and his rival, Yotasuke, will strengthen their friendship in the coming season.

Which studio is making Blue Period Season 2?

Despite massive success in the international market, Blud Period received a moderate response in Japan. Some fans argued that the anime was lifeless compared to the manga. They said that the anime was fast-paced and didn’t capture the world of its source material.
