1899 is an upcoming creepy German epic period mystery-horror streaming television series. It is a multi-language series, and the characters will speak in the language of their own origin. The story takes place in 1899 as a migratory steamship departs the old continent for the west.

Dark is one of Netflix’s most mind-bending web series to date. However, another intriguing series from the Dark creators is now set to captivate worldwide audiences. Netflix announced a few months ago that 1899 is in the making. Because it comes from the creators of Dark, the anticipation is high. Also, the viewers are eager to learn when it will be available on Netflix.

So, when will 1899 be released on Netflix? What does the upcoming season have in store? Who is the cast? Well, in order to find out, keep reading.

1899 Release Date on Netflix

The show was scheduled to premiere in 2021 but was pushed back. Baran bo Odar revealed on Instagram on November 24, 2020, that pre-production for 1899 had begun, with production starting in April 2021 and ending in September 2021.

However, in early 2022, it was confirmed that 1899 would be released on Netflix in the autumn/winter of 2022. The show is, however, set to premiere in November 2022. Therefore, it has been confirmed that the series is coming on Netflix on November 17, 2022.

1899 Plot

The story takes place in 1899 as a migratory steamship departs the old continent for the west. The passengers, a diverse group of European descent, were brought together by their aspirations for the twenty-first century and their futures abroad.

But their trip takes an unexpected turn when they come across another migrant ship drifting on the open sea. Their journey to the promised land will become a terrifying nightmare due to what they discover on board.

There have been rumors that 1899 would also have the concept of time travel. However, showrunners Friese and Odar clarified it.

“We don’t repeat ourselves, we really hate that, but it’s going to be a fun puzzle for the audience. We are going back to our mystery roots.  All the passengers on the ship are traveling with secrets that they don’t want to get out. It’s built like a puzzle again. Knowing that we did Dark, everyone can be assured that this is going to be something weird and wild and crazy.”

The synopsis of the new series is described as follows in the official press release:

“The original series revolves around a migrant steamship heading west to leave the old continent from London to New York. The passengers, a mixed bag of European origins, are united by their hopes and dreams for the new century and their future abroad. When they discover another migrant ship adrift on open sea, their journey takes an unexpected turn. What they find on board will turn their passage to the promised land into a horrifying nightmare.”
